Kilimanjaro, the highest permanently snow-capped free standing mountain in Africa, the exotic Islands of Zanzibar, the finest game sanctuaries of Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Ruaha, Selous and the Marine Park of Mafia Island are only but a few of the living examples. Tanzania lies between the area of the great lakes, Victoria, Tanganyihika and Malawi - with the Indian Ocean on its' coastline to the east.

Umbwe Route - 8days/ 7nights


DAY 1: NAIROBI - ARUSHA.
Leave Nairobi in a shuttle bus arriving Arusha in time for lunch. Afternoon spent at leisure and shopping for the provision needed for the mountain. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Arusha.

DAY 2:ARUSHA - LAVAS CAVES.
After breakfast, transfer to Marangu gate and then to Umbwe village to start the climb. Climb for four hrs through the rain the rain forest to camp at the caves 2,800m above the sea level.

DAY 3: LAVAS CAVES - BARRANCO HUT.
After breakfast, continue ascend along a sharp ridge, giving a district high mountain feeling, then unto the moorland camp and by mid afternoon stay at Barranco hut 3,900m for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: BARRANCO HUT - ARROW GLACIER.
A four-hour walk past enormous breach wall to camp at the foot of the arrow Glacier. A leisurely afternoon and afternoon and evening, acclimatizing around 4,900m and watching the sunset behind mount Meru.

DAY 5: ARROW GLACIER - KILIMANJARO CRATER RIM.
Climbing the same steep scrambling up the screes and across the frozen lava on the tottering wall. You camp on the stunning crater rim of kilimanjaro.

DAY 6: KILIMANJARO CRATER RIM - HOROMBO HUT.
You trek up the highest point in Africa, UHURU peak 5,896m. Descend via Gilman's point and kibo hut for dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: HOROMBO HUT - ARUSHA.
After breakfast descend to the Marangu park gate via Mandara. Dinner and overnight at Arusha.

DAY 8: ARUSHA - NAIROBI.
After breakfast, leave for Nairobi by morning or afternoon shuttle bus
